I don’t want to say it too loud but I think Spring may have finally arrived. With the wind subsiding and the temperatures going up its time to get back into my walking routine. I’ve been reading a book called Thin Walking and WOW it sure does hit home what the benefits of regular exercise can do and how we let all the noise of a scale get in the way of what we should be doing…Walking.
I talked with Em and together we found a new pair of sneakers for me dedicated to my walking program. Dansko’s. I love Dansko’s and have three pairs of clogs and 4 pairs of sandals so why wouldn’t I have a pair for walking too. Shh. Don’t tell hubby I bought another pair of shoes.
To hold myself accountable I’m putting my plan out there. My long-term goal is to walk 60 minutes a day, five days per week and the other two days, if I can get in a walk great but I know I need some flexibility in my schedule. Life can get in the way of best laid plans.
Jasper, the wonder pup, is a good walking buddy and he’s always ready to go when I pick up his leash and harness, along with Griffin the goof ball. If hubby isn’t up for the longer walks I’ll have to take turns with the pups. But I always have music as a companion too.
The last time I concentrated on a walking plan I shrunk, not to my goal but I felt great, slept better and my general outlook was fantastic. Why did I stop? The weather turned cool and let’s face it on the cold winter days what holds more appeal, being cozy in the living room with a pup on my lap or wearing layers of clothes and hitting the trail. Last winter I would have said, without hesitation, the couch. I hope this winter I’ll have a different answer. I want to be one of those walkers who say, what, it’s not too cold to get out there and walk.
Do you want to take a walk with me? Lace up your sneakers, grab a bottle of water and let’s hit the road or path together.
Until next time,
I wish you happiness.
