TBR Pile

Hello Again,
What is a TBR? It’s a to be read pile. I’m sure we all have stacks of books either literally sitting around our houses or stacked up on our e-readers, waiting to be read.
I have a few locations around my house with piles. On my dresser, bookcase and next to the sofa. Some books are non-fiction about the craft of writing and others are novels that are pure pleasure reading. I hope you enjoy my review on a new author to me and maybe even to you. I had the pleasure to read a collaborative work with Annette Blair, Christine Mazurk, Lynn Jenssen and Jeannine Duval Spikes, Sisters of Spirit, a very enjoyable book and it left me wanting to read more from each author. Here is my review of one of the books I’ve read.
A Veiled Deception by Annette Blair
From the first page, I was hooked. I fell in love with Maddie a fashionista, passionate about vintage clothing, returning home to help with her younger sister, Sherry’s wedding. That’s when things go haywire. Someone is murdered in the family home during the engagement party and Sherry is the prime suspect. Enter the handsome Nick. Maddie’s long-term heart throb but they never seem to be in the same place for too long.
While working to clear her sister’s name Maddie discovers a mystical talent she didn’t know she possessed. After visiting her mother’s closet friend, Aunt Fiona, Maddie learns she is more like her late mother than she thought and is following in her footsteps.
Enter handsome hunk number two. Sargent Lytton Werner, who is investigating the murder and keeps stumbling over Maddie who refuses to stop trying to “help”. In fact, the pair have a long history from grade school. As Maddie discovers the invisible thread that makes her realize she’s left her heart and home in this small town. After visiting two elderly neighbor ladies the key to her future becomes clear. However, before she takes the next step she must find the answer that threatens her sister’s happily ever after.
I have to confess I love Werner and the fact he and Maddie are at odds only makes me root for him even more. As a reader, I can hope something more will come from this angst filled relationship.
I loved the first book in this series and I ordered the others. If you love a little mystery, romance, magic and, of course, a strong female pick up this book. I bet like me, you’ll be hooked.
Until next time,
I wish you happiness.
