As an author of romance novels, I spend a fair amount of time reading. As a kid I read everything I could put my hands on and that really hasn’t changed much as an adult. With the exception of horror books. My apologies to Stephen King, with the exception of his non-fiction book On Writing. Loved it!
Currently, I have a stack of books on the side table next to the couch and the bedside table. Oh, and I forgot to mention another stack on the coffee table. I love print books. Of course, I have a Kindle and a Nook with a ton more books but after looking back at the last couple of sentences I could say I’m addicted to the written word.
I love reading a well-written novel and I adore a good mystery. Agatha Christie is a favorite. Who doesn’t love a sweet old lady poking around and solving the who done it. The more modern version is Jessica Fletcher, the lead in the television show Murder, She Wrote. Years ago, I thought Jessica had the best life, writing novels on an old typewriter near the ocean in a small town in Maine. Talk about living the dream, well I’d skip the part about finding bodies. Now, there is a new batch of female sleuths on Hallmark Movie and Mystery channel. I’ve even got hubby hooked on them. I don’t have a favorite but it would be nice if one of them was a writer.
But I love reading and writing romance. There are many sub-genres within the category and I’ll read whatever I can get my hands on. When I go to a signing event with other authors I’m in awe of all they have accomplished and I too become a huge fan. Jean C. Gordon, who writes Sweet and Inspirational Romance, is one of my favorites and I have two books in my to-read pile. I’ve recently learned that another author I adore, Annette Blair, will be releasing a new Kitchen Witch book and I can’t wait to pick up a copy.
I’ve come to the conclusion that writing is my passion and reading fuels my passion for writing. Read, write, repeat. Whenever the question comes up if you were on a desert island what is one thing you must have? For me, other than the people I love, it would be a lifetime supply of books and an unlimited supply of legal pads and pens.
Until next time,
I wish you happiness.
