After her beloved bakery goes up in flames, former FBI data analyst Temperance Matthews is determined to rise from the ashes—literally. With the support of her best friend Josie, her loyal dachshund Hank, and a budding home kitchen renovation, she’s baking her way back into business in the small town of Oak Hollow.

But when one of the volunteers who helped demo her new space is found dead—

and another is discovered unconscious beside the river—after eating one of her famous chocolate cupcakes—Temperance finds herself caught in the center of a town-wide whodunit. With her sharp instincts (and an old FBI habit of connecting the dots), she starts sniffing around. Good thing her new friend, Officer Casey Butler, doesn’t mind a little amateur help.

As secrets swirl to the surface and the list of suspects grows longer than a grocery receipt, Temperance must whip up the truth before someone else gets burned—and before her second chance at sweet success crumbles for good.
